RC Airplane Night Flying with LEDs

Posted on 10/26/2008 1:51:38 AM

I bought some off-the-shelf LEDs from You-Do-It-Electronics in Needham, MA to use on a remote control airplane for night flying. I bought a few packs of the Linrose Super Brite LEDs and they seem to work really well, the green and the red seem to cast a much wider light beam.

The plane is a ParkZone Stryker F27c.

I ended up using 2 LEDs pointed at each other and a straw to do the red "bars". Works well, can't wait to try it out at night.

How did you put the led's onto the plane? They really look cool. What voltage do you have to light the leds? Are they put in series like xmas
tree lights? Let me know Thanks Steve

Not bad man! Looks like you have been busy. No email link? I guess that is what the blog is for.
I dig it.

Hey,
The LEDs are run in series and I ran them off the flight battery pack (3 cell). They were made for 12volt, so it was close enough.

I now use the hobbyking LED strips as they are much easier to mount, plus you get 60 LEDs on 3 feet of tape.
